Flames are hot
01/01/2003
The
Colorado Avalanche are the hottest team of the league at the moment.
They are on a seven game winning streak. Besides the Avs, the
Calgary Flames are ruling up the league at the moment. Tonight
the Flames played against the Chicao Blackhawks on the road, and
they were proving once again their great form.
In second period the Flames already decided the game with two
goals. First defender Jillson and winger Rucinsky scored the goals
for Flames. It was Jilsson's third goal in fourth game for the
Flames, and more and more he is proving that he is a great defender.
Also GM Yuhas of the Flames is very happy with his performances
lately.
" Yes, he is exactly the player we were looking for",
said Yuhas. " And after four games he has already scored
four points. Great stats for such a young and talented player
who just came to us."
In second period the Flame continued to score. Once again they
finished period with two goals; first Craig Conroy scored his
16th goal of the season, ten minutes later defensive forward Clark
Wilm added another goal on the scoring sheet.
" Tonight we just played perfect two periods", said
Joe Sakic after the game. " The team is playing good hockey
lately and I am very happy at the moment. It was a huge chance
for me, but now I am playing for Flames with all of my heart."
In last period Darren vanImpe came to his first goal of the season.
The defender scored in powerplay, after seven minutes of play.
But five minutes later another powerplay situation brought the
decision. Wilm scored his second goal of the game, and Flames'
fifth goal. Rasmussen and Gavey scored two goals for Hawks late
third period, but it was just too late. The Flames were really
dominating this game and won by a score of 5-3. At the moment
they are on a three game winning streak and now they are just
one point behind a playoff spot.
" The situation looks good at the moment", said GM Yuhas.
" And I am sure that my team will be able to play in the
plaoyffs."
Gamewinner for Calgary was Martin Rucinsky, who scored three points.

Selanne
is part of club 20 now
Tonight
the San Jose Sharks defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning by
a score of 4-3. And for Selanne it was a special game.
He scored Sharks' first goal of the game, and this goal
was his goal number 20 this season. " It's not that
important, more important is that we won versus the Bolts.
My personal success is nice, but not the most important
thing."
Besides Selanne, O'Neill, Savard and York scored the goals
for Sharks.

Ducks are doing step by step
12/28/2002
The
season so far is a season full of ups and downs. Not a lot teams
played great hockey constantly, and especially the playoff-spots
will be open till the last day of regular season it seems.
A team worth to mention are the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. They
are playing good hockey lately, and especially against teams of
their own Conference they are playing great hockey.
Tonight the Anaheim Mighty Ducks faced the Calgary Flames at home,
and more than 13'000 fans came to see their team.
In first period the Flames had a great start into the game, when
Dean McAmmond scored the game opening goal. It was his 20th goal
of the season, and he's on a career high.
" We have a great team and personally I am feeling great.
I knew before the season started, that I will have a good season.
But I didn't expect such a great season."
But the Anaheim Mighty Ducks fought back and within one minute
they made the lead. First center Nedved tied the score with his
goal number 16, one minute later it was Jonsson who brought the
lead for Ducks. Although the Ducks lead the game, the Flames were
dominating first period with 12 shots. And therefore the Flames
were able to tie the game-score again in first period. Radek Dvorak
scored his 25th goal of the season, assisted by McAmmond and Sakic.
With 25 goals Radek Dvorak is near the best goalscorers of the
league. Best goal scorer of the league is Islanders' Iginla at
the moment with 31 goals.
In second period the Flames continuted their dominating game-play
with six shots while just allowing two by Ducks. Wilm's goal at
the end of the period was not a big surprise. Ducks' fans were
scared of seeing the team losing, but in last period a totally
different team of Anaheim came on the ice. They started to play
great hockey, with full offensive power. After one minute of play
Jani Rita tied the score again in powerplay, five minutes later
Petr Nedved were able to make the game winning goal. In last period
the Ducks made 15 shots.
With this win the Ducks are on a three game winning streak and
they are on the way to have a playoff spot. Of course it all depends
on the other teams, but the Ducks are better than ever before
this season.

Adrian
Aucoin traded to Minnesota
Chicago
Blackhakws were very active during the x-mas break. In
another deal they traded defender Adrian Aucoin to the
Minnesota Wild, in exchange defensive defender Brad Brown
will join the Blackhawks. Brad Brown is one of the tough
guys of the league, with 133 penalty minutes in 52 games.
With Adrian Aucoin the Blackhawks are losing their best
defender. This season he is on a streak, he has scored
30 points in 49 games. He is among league's best defenders.
" I am looking forward to playing for Wild, although
I wanted to play in playoffs", said Aucoin after
the press-conference.

Chicago
and Calgary strike a deal
Chicago
and Calgary agreed on a minor deal earlier today. The
Chicago Blackhawks are sending young russian winger Radulov
and two prospects Barkunov and Kent Huskins to Calgary
Flames. In exchange Scott Nichol, goalie Levente Szuper
and a pick will go the other way. Scott Nichol was quite
disappointed when he heard about his trade. He has played
47 games and there he has scored 12 points. " I really
loved to play for Calgary, too bad that the headquarter
decided to trade me."
